The verdict is finally out!
After clocking a whopping 7 crore votes Prashant Tamang was declared the winner. Prashant — a 24-year-old constable from Darjeeling — became emotional and could not hold back his tears. Prashant bagged a Rs 1 crore contract with Sony as well.
The show saw performances from from Mika, Alisha Chinnai, Anu Malik, Udit Narayan and Sukhwinder.
Runner-up Amit Paul, who hails from Shillong, was all smiles. Sportingly enough Jagdish Khattar MD of Maruti gifted a Maruti SX4 car him on the spot.
These guys seem to be nation’s favourite singers right now; will hopefully continue to rock Indians for a long time to come.
A bit off topic but I wonder if it takes 7 months to select an Indian idol why does it take close to 2 years to select a few hundred civil servants?
Coming back to topic the question is will these idols fade into oblivion like Sandeep Acharya and Abhijeet Sawant, previous winners of the same contest? Not for Amit Paul. Yes for Prashant it was possible but for his superb friendship with Amit Paul. With such magnanimity and sincerity Prashant walked down the aisle with Amit Paul, both in tow with the trophy, both winners. This will certainly keep Prashant in the good books of every fan of Amit as well, including those who matter in the industry. Therefore i see a bright future for both these guys.
Also this time a boy band has been created by Indian idol whose members are Abhishek, Parleen, Chang and the other guy who Javed akhtar had called “bina engine ki gaadi”. Seriously???? It seems a flop before it has begun!!
Finally, what was pointed out as Prashant’s achilles heel, his nepali background, was which worked in his favour. None the less, any guy with a pure heart like his surely deserves it. Way to go Prashant! 🙂
